Training is pretty fundamental in developing a person’s skills and career, so we’ve developed a fully-equipped training kitchen and meeting room at our head office, where we run a range of courses. Of course, a lot of training goes on in the pubs all the time, but there are also plenty of external courses that people find useful as well.
We're also developing an on-line training system, which we call the Induction Project. It will deliver a multi-media bespoke training package for each individual, tailored to their job requirements and health and safety legislation. As people progress in their careers, their training packages are automatically augmented.
Between ourselves and our sister company, we are opening some five or six pubs a year, so the opportunities for people to progress their careers according to their ability and ambition are legion: we chat to people regularly to look at where they would like to go within the company, and sort out which courses or moves will help them get there - and we promote from within whenever we can.
